Many photographers worry they’ll come across as pushy or inauthentic — especially when they’re trying to encourage clients to invest beyond the digital files. But here’s the truth: Selling doesn’t have to feel “salesy.” In fact, it shouldn’t. Authentic sales are about connection, not persuasion. About guiding, not guilting. Here’s what that might look in practice: Not: “You need this album or you’ll regret it.” Instead: “Most of my couples say they’re so glad to have something tangible from the day. To View More >>

If the last couple of years have taught us anything it's to be prepared – so we’re sending our holiday guidelines early so you have you plenty of time to plan for the busy season. We always stress that these are guidelines, not deadlines, but we do encourage you to get your orders in by the following dates, to ensure we can deliver them before the holidays. Things are more normal now than last year — no more lock downs, we hope! But supply challenges and/or courier delays are still quite likely, so please don't wait until the last minute. We thought we should explain where we’re heading in terms of product development over the next few months. There'll be more to come for sure about other products, but this is it for albums. For now! And although we’re working on major updates, especially to our Flushmount and Studio ranges, regular customers will be pleased to know we’ll be tidying up a few anomalies and aggravations in our systems and resources as we go. Please treat what follows as a road map, not a timetable. We’ll make further announcements as things are released. And of course, there’ll To View More >>

What is "aspect ratio", and why can it be a problem? The aspect ratio of an image is the ratio of its width to its height. Unless the aspect ratio of a print or frame matches that of the camera image from which it is made, the original image will need to be cropped. What to do When shooting, bear in mind the finished print that you want to sell. If you frame the subject tightly (with important content out to the edges of the image) you won't be able to crop — you'll need to order prints with the same aspect ratio as the camera. Since most digital camerals have an To View More >>

The lead up to the holidays can be a very lucrative time for photographers, but it can also put pressure on getting product orders in on time, so your clients can have them for the holidays. One way to be very prepared is to bulk order Slip-in Mats and Studio Boxes. In Pearl or Carbon Buckram, these Boxes sell themselves. You can personalise them with your own logo on the lid. Branding products like this turns them into your silent salesmen when your clients take them home. Any unsold boxes or mats can carefully be tucked away for your next print reveal. At-home portrait shoots are an ever-growing trend, and we're completely on board with that. Catherine Cattanach was asked by Gale and her partner Aurelian  to photograph their family as they welcomed little Gala into their lives. Catherine photographed Gala's older sister Aurelia as a newborn, so she was thrilled when Gale and Aurelian asked her back. She spent the morning at their home in Paekakariki, documenting some quality time together. Gala is such a chilled-out little soul, says Catherine, while wee Aurelia was full of beans.  Although Catherine loves her studio To View More >>

The presentation box our albums come in has a long history. Developed for us in 1995 by leading designer Donna Hoyle, it combines two graphic elements: a 17th Century Italian text, and a series of leaf and heraldic devices including our own Cherub. It doesn’t even bear our name, but to us, and our customers, it’s a key part of our identity, like Tiffany’s Blue Box… but maybe not as famous! The Box even survived a total rebranding in 2008, when we couldn’t bear to part with it. It was another seven years before we refreshed the design, and even then we built on the To View More >>
